I’m 27 and 7 months pregnant with our first baby. My husband 25 is an only child we live with his parents 53-57 who are fairly well off, and his mom’s parents. they have told us since he is an only child there is no point in him moving out because “the house will eventually be ours”. We have our own vehicles in our name and we pay the insurance. Randomly his parents decided to drive his car to get lunch and tell us after they drove it (we leave a spare set of keys out since our cars are parked behind their cars). My husband’s car has been having an issue where the front end shakes when he steps on the breaks, he wasn’t worried about it and was still driving it daily. After his dad drove it he had a talk with us and said his car needs to go get fixed and offered to pay for the repairs and of course we were extremely appreciative of that. Now it’s a week later the car is apparently only worth 11,000 and needs 9,000 in repairs. I completely understand that that is ridiculous. we cannot afford to buy a new car and we cannot afford those repairs. The plan is for me to be a stay at home mom once the baby comes his parents support that. Now my husband is saying we should sell his car to the dealership for $4,000 and pocket the extra money which I agree with. And his family is saying since I will no longer be working in a few weeks that I don’t need a car and they can help me/husband with rides so we can share one car. 6 of us live in the house, grandparents and mom are retired I am about to be a stay at home mom. husband and dad work full time. that would leave us with three vehicles in between six people two of those vehicles will be going to work every day and then the one vehicle would be left for the four people plus a baby at the house for any doctors appointments, hair appointments , grocery store runs, etc. also I am a high risk pregnancy I have high blood pressures and gestational diabetes and am having kidney issues so a month from now I will be seeing the doctor twice a week an hour each appointment and my doctors appointments are 30 minutes from our house. being high risk I’ve already been sent to the hospital twice. since we are about to be responsible for another humans appointments and post pregnancy appointments I am very upset about being the person who will have the short end of the stick and have to rely on others for rides. My husband and I have been going in circles with this conversation all day basically I’m selfish because I think we should get another car even though we can’t afford the car payment and I’m upset because his parents said that he they would pay for the car repairs but $9000 is an incredible amount of money and they probably would do it but also I understand that it’s ridiculous to ask them. I’m also mad because I feel like we never would’ve been in this situation if his parents had not borrowed his car without asking us. AITAH?
